Dear Friends,
The parish will know that, whilst I am not the most patient person in the world, I am not usually given to a rant on the parish website. Writing this in mid-July, perhaps the heat is making me crotchety, or – just maybe - I am genuinely disappointed and irritated by some of the things that have been happening recently.

This month ‘the Vicar’s letter’ takes a different form to usual. All and yet everything I want to say is about wishing two special people farewell and the very best of everything as they move away from Hook. They have been a distinctive part of the community for a long time, and many of us will miss them.

I am writing this on the day of the FA Cup Final, and at the end of the week in which Fabio Capello announced his provisional squad of 30 for the imminent football World Cup and David Beckham presented the FA’s bid to host the tournament in 2018.

By the time you read this, millions of people will have been following the final UK series of Channel 4’s Celebrity Big Brother.
Thoughts on Haiti
The news pictures have been terrible, the suffering unimaginable. Apart from the bare geological descriptions of an earthquake, nothing can really explain what happened. People the world over will have questions and, inevitably, many will chose to blame God. In some ways that is an entirely understandable reaction, although of course it does not answer the question ‘why’?.
